Feb.4
Very cold this morning, 33 here, but in upper 20’s inland. The record for the coldest high temperature was broken by one degree - it got up to only 56. Restful morning, lunch here, then shopping at Gulf Coast Mall, with coffee - snack - reading at the book store. The Starbucks has closed at this mall. If it closes at Miromar, we will have to change our Sunday morning routine! Went to see the movie about Benjamin Button, who was born old and got younger with time passing. Very good, Pitt and Blanchett gave award-winning performances. It will be hard for us to pick our favorites at Oscar time. Home for a late supper.
Feb. 3
This morning is cool and windy, but mostly sunny. Yesterday, we had about .3 inches of rain - not a lot, but welcomed. This morning, we went to Walmart, then to lunch at Perkins (used a coupon for order-one, get half off one). Then we went for a long walk at Lakes Park. Very breezy, but we need the exercise. Still saw lots of birds, and in some areas we were out of the wind. Came home, Linda did some wash, Bob took a nap (does that sound fair?) We have 3 pots of flowers and one with a tomato plant. It’s supposed to freeze tonight, so we brought them all inside. Had lite supper here.
From the paper:
Hundreds of live conch shells made a surprise landing on Bonita Beach. It might have been caused by a very cold plume of water that washes up, or it could have been a low-level low-temperature tide. The interesting thing is that it only seemed to be the conchs. Usually, more animals wash up. It is illegal to collect live shells, so people on the beach did not collect them. Many were throwing them back into the water, which was not a good idea either, possibly damaging them. Experts say the best thing to do is to leave them alone and let nature take its course.
