Feb. 23
Watched Good Morning America about the Academy Awards. Weather is perfect, so went for a long bike ride this morning. Lunch here, relaxed, watched Oprah’s show about the Academy Awards. (I don’t know why, but we enjoy watching the shows interviewing the stars.)
FROM THE PAPER: Paraphrased.
(Some of you have gone to Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary with us, and if you remember, at the end of the boardwalk, you cross a relatively open area that is not swampy. A couple recently were walking that area at early dusk when they saw a deer. Then they saw a Florida panther stalking the deer. The man took some great pictures. The deer finally saw them and ran, but the panther paid no attention to them and took off after the deer. It’s unusual to see a panther, and it usually happens at night along the road.)

Did our usual Sunday thing - Starbucks, church. For lunch, went to Olive Garden. Relaxing day, watched Academy Awards. We both thought it was a very good show this year - didn’t know Hugh Jackman had all that talent. I guess he has been on Broadway, which seems a long way from Wolverine! We were glad Kate Blanchet won - she did an outstanding job in The Reader (and not just in the nude scenes!!). Slumdog’s win is an amazing story - almost not released to theatres, lacking money and/or power, lacking any big name actors, it caught the fancy of the public. It was a good love story, with the game show being the up-front story line. Also, our pick for best picture, The Reader, had the love story and holocaust as the story line, but it was really about the extent of the shame illiterate people feel.
