Jan. 31
Watched sunrise, ate breakfast, packed everything, and checked out at 8:30. Really enjoyed this stay. At 9, went to a timeshare sales presentation in order to get $75 in gift cards. At 10:45, we met my niece, Spring Crane, and her boyfriend, Gary, at a pier south of where we stayed. Had a good visit, a nice lunch at Aruba’s, and then headed back to Ft. Myers. Stopped at our favorite Starbucks, then got home about 4:30. Unpacked, had a lite supper, and tried to watch TV, but went to sleep early.

Jan. 30
Very foggy this morning, still warm and humid. We took a long walk on the beach at about 7 a.m., and Linda found a few good shells. Drove north to Deerfield Beach where there is a very nice mile-long paved walking area parallel to the beach and a very long fishing pier. Also several shops and restaurants. For mid-morning snack, stopped at a nice restaurant in the bottom level of a big resort. Across the street is a 16 story block-long resort - so lots of people walking, sitting, playing dominos, etc. For lunch, we came back to Pompano Beach to the U.S. Steakhouse, then came back to the resort. Now very cloudy and getting cooler. Relaxed, read, went to sit out on beach for awhile (with a sweatshirt on). Didn’t rain, as predicted, but cool, breezy, and cloudy. Lite supper in our room.

From the Pompano Beach paper:
A beach in Palm Beach was closed to swimmers because of sharks close to the shore. Waves of sharks came close enough to awe sunbathers, who got a spectacle from shore. The spinner sharks are on their southward migration.

A man who works for Palm Beach County was cleaning along the edge of Lake Osborne. When he reached down to get a plastic bottle, an alligator jumped out of the water and grabbed him. He was pulled into the lake but was able to escape. However, half of his left index finger had to be removed, and his thumb was damaged but saved by surgery.
